Dear Parents:
I just wanted to reach out and thank you again for all your continued support and assistance during this time. As many of you have already heard, Governor Pritzker announced a continued “stay at home” order for the entire state until April 30. With this most recent executive order, the reopening date for schools statewide has been tentatively postponed to at least May 1. As I have previously stated, continue to plan for childcare beyond the April closure date.
Yesterday, you should have received information regarding our district’s Remote Learning Plan. This plan has been put in place to ensure the overall health and well-being of your child. During the “stay at home” order, the school district will continue to provide the breakfast and lunch meal program three days per week. Realizing next week is “Spring Break”, the district has determined it is in the best interest of our students to continue learning opportunities and meals. We understand it is Easter weekend, but our goal is to ensure students receive all the support and resources necessary during this time. So, all meal and packet pick up schedules will remain the same for the week of April 6. There may even be a SPECIAL TREAT FROM THE EASTER BUNNY FOR ALL HIS WALTONVILLE FRIENDS!
Lastly, I want to let everyone know that we have decided it is in the best interest of our students, staff, and community to cancel some of our upcoming spring events. Believe me, these decisions were not come to lightly. Administration, teachers, and the BOE want what is best for our students and will always put the health, safety, and welfare of them first and foremost. At this time, we feel it best to cancel the Jr. High Spring Dance, High School Prom, and the High School Awards Banquet. Other spring events will be assessed at a later time. Again, please know we completely understand how much these events mean to our students and their families. I know many are wondering if these events can or will be rescheduled. I promised our teachers and our BOE I would not give out information I could not validate or support. For me to say any of these events will be rescheduled would be unfair, as I do not know what the future holds for the school closure. Just know, I will always work with our teachers and BOE to do what is right by our students. I realize for many students some of these events will be their last as a WHS student, and would want nothing more than to be able to provide the opportunity if allowed. But again, I will not promise something I cannot ensure I can deliver.
As always, if you need any assistance or have questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
With Sincere Thoughts,
Dr. Melanie Brink
