WCUSD1 Student Attendance Update & other informational items
February 26, 2021
Good Afternoon Parents and Families!
I wanted to start off by thanking you all for your flexibility during this crazy, crazy school year. Who would have thought we would have a snow storm in the midst of a pandemic? It is never easy to make the “school is canceled” calls because we all want students in front of their teachers, especially when they have missed so much face-to-face instruction this past year. The teachers and administration met to discuss the best course of action to support learning, knowing that in the spring state assessment would be forthcoming. Our 3rd - 8th grade students would be taking the IAR, 9th - 10th grade students taking the P-SAT, and 11th grade students taking the SAT. There is always so much to weigh when trying to balance what is best for students at all grade levels. E-learning and remote learning is not the answer to everything but it was the best solution available to the situation we were given.
On a positive note, numbers of COVID infections in Jefferson County continue to decline. In addition, WCUSD 1 has had one positive infection since Christmas break. Multiple staff members have received the vaccine, and we continue to follow safety protocols to mitigate the risk of infection. With this in mind, beginning fourth quarter, WCUSD 1 will be returning to 5 days a week of in-person instruction with a 2:10 dismissal. This new schedule will begin on the week of March 15.
Please note the schedule as follows:
Monday, March 1: NO SCHOOL- Pulaski Day
Friday, March 5: In-Person Learning due to no school on Monday
Friday, March 12: END OF THE THIRD QUARTER- Last Friday of REMOTE LEARNING
Monday, March 15: FIRST DAY OF THE FOURTH QUARTER- Beginning of 5 days of IN-PERSON
Wednesday, May 19: Last day of student attendance
Sunday, May 16: Eighth Grade (2 PM) and High School (5 PM) Graduation
Again, the teachers, staff, Board of Education, and administration are truly appreciative for all your support this year. Please know the staff will continue to meet and discuss how to address learning loss due to remote instruction that began last March. If you have any thoughts or immediate concerns, please contact your teacher and/or administration. We are all here to work together to support and help our students grow and achieve.
With Regards,
Melanie Brink
